Des BJD mais pas seulement !<\/h4>\n

Dans mon pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent article<\/a> sur les d\u00e9buts de mon activit\u00e9, je parle surtout de mes cr\u00e9ations BJD, mais j’ai aussi r\u00e9alis\u00e9 beaucoup de commandes de petites cr\u00e9atures, ce qui m’a permis de tester d’autres mati\u00e8res comme la Prosculpt, la p\u00e2te Fimo ou encore les plolym\u00e8res sans cuisson (genre milliput ou magic sculpt).<\/p>\n

J’ai beaucoup aim\u00e9 travailler sur ce genre de commandes car cela permettait de jouer sur les mati\u00e8res et les finitions et d’inventer toutes sortes de cr\u00e9atures bizarres sans le stress de la sym\u00e9trie ou de la ressemblance avec un \u00eatre existant ! C’\u00e9tait un espace de libert\u00e9 tr\u00e8s plaisant, avec un c\u00f4t\u00e9 r\u00e9cr\u00e9atif tr\u00e8s sympa. En plus, c’est \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque que j’ai eu un a\u00e9rographe, donc j’ai pu tester de nouvelles fa\u00e7ons de peindre mes cr\u00e9atures qui m’ont bien chang\u00e9 la vie ! Je peignais principalement au pinceau ou j’utilisais des pastels secs, mais l’a\u00e9rographe est incontournable pour faire de jolis d\u00e9grad\u00e9s ou des couleurs uniformes sur l’ensemble d’une figurine.<\/p>\n

J’ai ainsi pu cr\u00e9er des cr\u00e9atures en tous genres, statiques, semi articul\u00e9es, ou avec un corps en fil de fer, puis j’ai test\u00e9 aussi les cr\u00e9atures sur socles avec des petits d\u00e9cors, ce qui \u00e9tait tr\u00e8s sympa \u00e0 faire \u00e9galement. J’aime beaucoup les miniatures, donc faire des petits dioramas m’a toujours plu et me pla\u00eet encore beaucoup. C’est totalement diff\u00e9rent de la cr\u00e9ation de BJD ! En effet, lorsqu’on cr\u00e9e des pi\u00e8ces uniques, on n’a pas besoin de r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir au fait que chaque pi\u00e8ce doit ensuite \u00eatre moul\u00e9e ou \u00e0 tout autre souci technique, donc ce n’est pas la m\u00eame approche ni la m\u00eame fa\u00e7on de travailler.<\/p>\n

Cela n\u00e9cessite aussi d’avoir beaucoup de choses et de bricoles en stock dans des bo\u00eetes et des cartons !… Je r\u00e9cup\u00e9rais et stockais beaucoup de petites choses comme des coques de noix, des plantes s\u00e8ches, des plumes, des cailloux et autres petits objets en tous genres, ce qui prend tr\u00e8s vite beaucoup de place !… Mais toutes ces petites commandes m’ont permis de continuer \u00e0 cr\u00e9er et d\u00e9velopper mes comp\u00e9tences et mon univers.<\/p>\n

L’aventure Bactro<\/h4>\n

Malgr\u00e9 le c\u00f4t\u00e9 tr\u00e8s cr\u00e9atif des dioramas, j’ai consacr\u00e9 de plus en plus de temps aux BJD. Suite \u00e0 ma premi\u00e8re exp\u00e9rience au Ldoll, j’\u00e9tais vraiment tr\u00e8s motiv\u00e9e et reboost\u00e9e pour me lancer sur un autre projet de poup\u00e9e. Je me suis dit que ce serait super de pouvoir pr\u00e9senter un tout nouveau mod\u00e8le pour le Ldoll suivant, sachant qu’en un an c’\u00e9tait jouable. J’ai commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir sur quelques id\u00e9es que j’avais not\u00e9es dans mes carnets, mais apr\u00e8s avoir vu un reportage sur les dinosaures, et notamment quelques s\u00e9quences sur le bactrosaure, que j’ai trouv\u00e9 vraiment adorable, je suis rest\u00e9e bloqu\u00e9e sur cette id\u00e9e. En affinant un peu les traits et en voyant ce que cela pouvait donner sur une poup\u00e9e enti\u00e8re, je trouvais que \u00e7a tenait la route. J’\u00e9tais vraiment contente de ce design car cela repr\u00e9sentait bien mon univers.<\/p>\n

Le plus compliqu\u00e9 \u00e9tait de trouver le bon \u00e9quilibre : garder un c\u00f4t\u00e9 gracieux avec une apparence de cr\u00e9ature reptilienne.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Le style d\u00e9finitif de Bactro<\/a> est venu assez rapidement, je n’ai pas eu trop de difficult\u00e9s car c’\u00e9tait compl\u00e8tement dans l’esprit de ce que je faisais en cr\u00e9atures polym\u00e8res \u00e0 ce moment l\u00e0. Par contre pour la r\u00e9alisation, cela s’est av\u00e9r\u00e9 un peu plus compliqu\u00e9 !…<\/p>\n

Je n’arrivais pas \u00e0 avoir une vision globale de mon travail car le format \u00e9tait trop grand !<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Travailler sur un grand format, \u00e7a change compl\u00e8tement ! Sur toutes mes autres poup\u00e9es, la sculpture \u00e9tait assez rapide, dans le sens o\u00f9, d\u00e8s que je venais enlever ou ajouter du volume, j’avais le r\u00e9sultat tr\u00e8s vite devant moi. Sur une poup\u00e9e de 40cm de haut, les modifications prenaient des heures, le temps que la p\u00e2te s\u00e8che sur de plus grandes surfaces pour que je puisse poncer ou sculpter ! Au final, la r\u00e9alisation de la poup\u00e9e m’a pris beaucoup plus de temps que pr\u00e9vu et j’ai fini par accumuler pas mal de retard sur mon planning…<\/p>\n

Et si \u00e7a ne suffisait pas, dans la derni\u00e8re ligne droite, j’ai fait une grosse crise d’angoisse en me disant qu’en fait cette poup\u00e9e \u00e9tait bien trop diff\u00e9rente de ce qui se faisait \u00e0 l’\u00e9poque, que je me plantais compl\u00e8tement et que jamais personne ne voudrait acheter \u00e7a !… J’avais pourtant re\u00e7u de bons retours sur internet en partageant mes avanc\u00e9es sur le net, mais le stress \u00e9tait trop fort. J’ai d\u00fb me raisonner pour continuer et ne pas tout laisser tomber ! (ahah j’avais pass\u00e9 trop de temps dessus pour arr\u00eater si pr\u00eat du but !) J’avais \u00e9galement en parall\u00e8le, confi\u00e9 quelques exemplaires \u00e0 d’autres artistes qui ont fait un tr\u00e8s beau travail et ont mis en valeur le moule, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 de superbes custos !<\/p>\n

Verdict final !<\/h4>\n

Malgr\u00e9 toutes ces p\u00e9rip\u00e9ties, j’ai r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 finir mes Bactro, non sans mal, et pr\u00e9parer mon stand. (Je ne vous parle pas non plus de l’angoisse de mettre un prix sur son travail… !!) Heureusement, l’accueil envers Bactro a \u00e9t\u00e9 bienveillant et chaleureux, ce qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 un vrai soulagement ! J’ai rencontr\u00e9 plein de gens enthousiastes et passionn\u00e9s, et je n’\u00e9tais pas seule sur mon stand ! On remet \u00e7a pour 2013<\/h4>\n

Apr\u00e8s un peu de repos, je commen\u00e7ais d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e0 planifier l’ann\u00e9e qui arrivait. Je voulais participer au Paris Fashion Doll au mois de mars, puis au Ldoll suivant en octobre. C’\u00e9tait un peu trop avec du recul, mais j’\u00e9tais tr\u00e8s motiv\u00e9e !<\/p>\n

J’ai d’abord cr\u00e9\u00e9 un petit personnage nomm\u00e9 Kamut<\/a>. Je voulais proposer une cr\u00e9ature articul\u00e9e, mais plus simple qu’une BJD, et dans un budget plus abordable. J’avais pas mal dessin\u00e9 de petites cr\u00e9atures dans son style sur mes carnets, donc il f\u00fbt relativement facile \u00e0 sculpter. J’ai r\u00e9alis\u00e9 le prototype en p\u00e2te Prosculpt car c’\u00e9tait plus rapide pour ce genre de format. Et apr\u00e8s moulage et tirage, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9clin\u00e9 dans tout un tas de couleurs ! Chaque make up lui donnait un genre diff\u00e9rent : je le trouvais tr\u00e8s mignon !<\/p>\n

Ensuite, comme je ne voulais pas du tout travailler sur un format aussi grand que Bactro (\u00e7a m’avait bien refroidie !), je me suis lanc\u00e9e sur deux petites dolls ! (rien que \u00e7a) J’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 bien travaill\u00e9 leurs designs sur papier, j’avais bien en t\u00eate les deux personnages, donc leur r\u00e9alisation a \u00e9t\u00e9 plus rapide que Bactro. J’ai pu travailler un peu plus rapidement sur Feldspathe<\/a> car elle \u00e9tait vraiment plus petite, mais Ambroise<\/a> m’a donn\u00e9 du fil \u00e0 retordre ! En effet, le souci quand on travaille sur des petits formats ou des pi\u00e8ces trop fines, c’est que \u00e7a casse plus facilement (surtout si le prototype est en Ladoll !)… J’ai d\u00fb faire tr\u00e8s attention pour le per\u00e7age et le pon\u00e7age des pi\u00e8ces car le prototype \u00e9tait tr\u00e8s fragile.<\/p>\n

Il fallait donc r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir \u00e0 une petite mise en sc\u00e8ne ou un d\u00e9corum sympa pour pr\u00e9senter mon travail. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 mon amie Miss Taku<\/a>, c’\u00e9tait r\u00e9ussi : en effet, elle a pu r\u00e9aliser des cr\u00e9atures en laine feutr\u00e9e pour le stand, mais \u00e9galement des wigs tr\u00e8s \u00e9labor\u00e9es pour les full set des Ambroises ! Je lui dois une fi\u00e8re chandelle ! J’ai aussi mis \u00e0 contribution la talentueuse Cachoou<\/a> pour la r\u00e9alisation des v\u00eatements des Feldspathes et Ambroises : le r\u00e9sultat \u00e9tait incroyable vu la taille des mod\u00e8les !<\/p>\n

I really enjoyed working on these kinds of orders because it allowed me to play with materials and finishes and invent all kinds of weird creatures without the stress of symmetry or resemblance to an existing being! It was a very pleasant space of freedom, with a very nice recreational side. What’s more, it was around this time that i got an airbrush, so i was able to test new ways of painting my creatures that have changed my life! I mostly painted with a brush or used dry pastels, but the airbrush is a must for making pretty gradients or even colors across an entire figure.<\/p>\n

I was able to create all kinds of creatures, static, semi-articulated, or with a wire body, then i also tested the creatures on bases with small decorations, which was also very interesting to do. I like miniatures a lot, so making small dioramas has always pleased me and i still enjoy it very much. It’s totally different from the BJD creation process! Indeed, when you create unique pieces, you don’t need to think about the fact that each piece has to be molded or any other technical concern, so it’s not the same approach or the same way of working<\/p>\n

It also requires having a lot of things and odds that end in stock in many boxes!… I collected and stored a lot of small things like nut shells, dried plants, feathers, pebbles and other small things. objects of all kinds, which very quickly take a lot of space up!… But all these small orders allowed me to go on creating and developping my skills.<\/p>\n

Bactro’s journey<\/h4>\n

Despite the very creative side of dioramas, i devoted more and more time to BJD. Following my first experience at Ldoll festival, i was really motivated and reboosted to work on another doll project. I thought it would be great to be able to present a brand new model for the next Ldoll, knowing that within a year it was doable. I started to think about a few ideas that i had written down in my notebooks, but after seeing a tv documentary on dinosaurs, and in particular some sequences on the bactrosaurus, which i found really adorable, i got stuck on this idea. By refining the features a bit and seeing what it could look like on a whole doll, i found it held up. I was really happy with this design because it represented my world quite well.<\/p>\n

The most difficult part was finding the right balance: keeping the doll graceful with the appearance of a reptilian creature.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Bactro’s final appearence came pretty quickly, i didn’t have too much troubles to define her as she was completely in the spirit of what i was doing with small creatures at this time. On the other hand for the realization, it turned out to be a little more complicated !…<\/p>\n

I couldn’t have a global vision of my work because the scale was too big!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Working on a large format changes everything! On all my other dolls, the sculpt part was quite fast, in the sense that, as soon as i came to remove or add volume, i had the result very quickly in front of me. On a 40cm tall doll, changes took hours, time for the paste to dry on larger areas so i could sand or sculpt! In the end, the realization of the doll took me much longer than expected and i ended up accumulating a lot of delay on my schedule…<\/p>\n

And if that wasn’t enough, in the home stretch, i had a big panic attack, telling myself that in fact this doll was way too different from what was done at the time, that i was screwing up completely and that no one would ever want to buy that! … I had nevertheless received good feedback on the internet by sharing my progress on forums, but the stress was too intense. I had to reason with myself to continue and not drop everything! (ahah I spent too much time on it to stop so close to the goal!) I also had in parallel, entrusted a few copies to other artists who did a very good job and highlighted the mold, thanks to their superb make up work!<\/p>\n

Final verdict!<\/h4>\n

Despite all these troubles, i managed to finish all the Bactros, not without difficulties, and prepare my booth. (Also, i won’t talk about the fear of putting a price on your work … !!) Fortunately, Bactro was warmly and kindly welcomed, which was a real relief! I met a lot of enthusiastic and passionate people, and i was not alone at my stand! (thanks to my co-stander <3) Unfortunately i was sick as bad as possible due to a virus and nervous fatigue, so i did not enjoy as i would, but it was a good moment anyway.<\/p>\n

Finally the good news was that all the Bactros had found buyers, and that i even had orders after the show! I was really happy and relieved but i was exhausted when i got home: it took me more than two weeks to get over it all!<\/p>\n

Here we go 2013 !<\/h4>\n

After a little rest, i was already starting to plan for the coming year. I wanted to participate in the Paris Fashion Doll in March, then the following Ldoll in October. It was a bit too much in hindsight, but i was very motivated!<\/p>\n

I first created a little character named Kamut<\/a>. I wanted to offer an articulated creature, but simpler than a BJD, and in a more affordable budget. I had drawn quite a few little creatures in his style on my notebooks, so he was relatively easy to sculpt. I made the prototype in Prosculpt paste because it was faster for this kind of format. And after molding and printing, it was available in a whole bunch of colors! Each make up gave him a different style: i found him very cute!<\/p>\n

Then, as i didn’t want to work on a big scale like Bactro at all (that had really cooled me off!), i started creating two small dolls! (just that) I had already worked well on their designs on paper, i had the two characters in mind, so their realization was faster than Bactro. I was able to work a little faster on Feldspathe<\/a> because she was really smaller, but Ambroise<\/a> gave me a hard time! Indeed, the problem when working on small scales or too thin parts is that it breaks more easily (especially if the prototype is made of Ladoll!) … I had to be very careful during drilling and sanding the parts because the prototype was very fragile.<\/p>\n

2013 was a very busy year in terms of work!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

I also wanted to make a nice booth decoration because for the next Ldoll, i had reserved a full booth! So i had to think about a little staging or a nice way to show my work. Thanks to my friend Miss Taku<\/a>, it was a success: indeed, she was able to make felted wool creatures for the booth, but also very elaborated wigs for the Ambroise full sets! I owe him a debt of gratitude! I also called on the talented Cachoou<\/a> to make the clothes for Feldspathes and Ambroises: the result was incredible considering the size of the models!<\/p>\n
